Batch and Batching for Jute

Define Batch and Batching

  • Batch: A batch in jute processing refers to a specific quantity of raw jute fibers selected and prepared together for uniform processing.

  • Batching: Batching is the process of mixing various grades of jute fibers in predefined proportions to achieve the desired quality and characteristics suitable for a particular product.

Objectives of Batch and Batching

  • To ensure uniform quality in yarn and fabric.

  • To maintain consistency in color, strength, and length of jute fibers.

  • To reduce cost by mixing low-cost fibers with high-quality fibers.

  • To improve spinnability and processing efficiency.

Define Jute Emulsion

Jute emulsion is a mixture applied to jute fibers during the batching process to enhance their softness, flexibility, and processing performance.

Ingredients of Emulsion

  • Water

  • Mineral Oil or Kerosene

  • Emulsifier (Soap or Detergent)

  • Antiseptic or Preservative (optional)

Define Softening

Softening is the mechanical and/or chemical treatment applied to jute fibers to make them more pliable and easier to process during spinning.

Objectives of Softening

  • To increase flexibility and softness of jute fibers.

  • To reduce brittleness and breakage during carding and drawing.

  • To enhance fiber alignment and spinning efficiency.

Machines Used for Softening

  • Softener Machine

  • Jute Spreader

  • Breaker Card (preliminary softening)
